Dessert Butter Board

Butter boards took over social media as a savory appetizer, and now the dessert version is having its moment — a beautifully swooped, generously topped board of sweetened butter meant for spreading onto warm bread, brioche, or cookies. It's less a "recipe" and more an edible centerpiece, and it's genuinely one of the easiest showstoppers you can put together.

Ingredients

  • 500g (2 cups) good quality unsalted butter, very soft
  • 60g (1/2 cup) icing sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Toppings: honey, fresh berries, crushed pistachios, mini chocolate chips, flaky sea salt, edible flowers, a drizzle of caramel or chocolate sauce

To serve: warm brioche slices, fresh bread, shortbread cookies, or graham crackers

Directions

  1. Beat the softened butter with icing sugar and vanilla until light, fluffy, and pale — about 3-4 minutes with an electric mixer.

  2. Spread the whipped butter generously across a wooden board or large plate, using the back of a spoon to create decorative swoops and swirls.

  3. Drizzle with honey and/or caramel or chocolate sauce.

  4. Scatter your chosen toppings across the board — fresh berries, crushed pistachios, chocolate chips, a generous pinch of flaky sea salt.

  5. Serve immediately alongside warm bread, brioche, or cookies for spreading.

Tip: this is best assembled just before serving — the butter is at its most spreadable soft and fresh, and it makes a genuinely stunning centerpiece for a brunch or gathering.
